Recipients: groups, subscribing and unsubscribing
A mailing always goes to a group of users. So who gets the mailing depends on the groups a user is in.
Putting a user in a group
- Open the user and click Edit.
- Under Groups, tick the group, for example Mailing.
- Click Save.
You can also put many users in a group at once: see the chapter Users and permissions.
Create a group Test with only yourself and a few colleagues. That way you can send a mailing to a small group first, before everyone gets it.
Subscribing to the newsletter
Visitors can subscribe to the newsletter on your website, if that option is turned on for your website. Anyone who subscribes is added as a user to the newsletter group.
Unsubscribing
Every mailing must have an unsubscribe link. So use a template with an unsubscribe link, such as HTML + unsubscribe. Anyone who clicks the link lands on the Newsletter settings page of your website. There the recipient unticks the newsletter and then sees a confirmation.
- Anyone who has unsubscribed is no longer in the group and does not get the next mailing.
- In the report of the mailing you see how many people unsubscribed (see Mailing statistics).
Don't put someone who unsubscribed back in the group yourself. Only the recipient may subscribe again.
Don't see a subscribe or unsubscribe page on your website, or do you want to choose which groups visitors can turn on and off themselves? Contact support.
