Connecting an AI assistant

Every Xanti website is also an MCP server: a fixed place an AI assistant connects to. The address is your own website with /api/mcp after it, for example https://www.example.com/api/mcp. You connect an assistant in one of the two ways below. You must be in the API group and have an API policy.

Claude (claude.ai): log in and give permission

You don't copy a key here. You log in to your own website and give permission there.

  1. In claude.ai, go to Settings > Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
  2. As the URL, enter the MCP address of your website, for example https://www.example.com/api/mcp.
  3. Claude sends you to the login page of your website. Log in with your own email address and password.
  4. You see the Connect an application page. Check which application wants to connect and which address you return to afterwards.
  5. Under The application may:, tick only what is needed: read items, add and change items or delete items.
  6. Click Allow. Click Deny if you did not start the connection yourself.

The connection then appears in your API tokens list, with the name of the application followed by (OAuth, …).

Claude Code: with an API token

  1. Make an API token (see Making and revoking an API token) and copy it.
  2. Run this command in the terminal, with your own website and your token in place of xt_...:
claude mcp add --transport http xanti https://www.example.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer xt_..."
  1. Ask Claude Code, for example, which folders your website has.

The assistant sees only the actions that your API policy and the checkboxes or Scopes allow. With only read, it cannot change anything. So start with reading and give write permissions only when needed.

Does connecting in claude.ai not work, and does your API policy have a list of IP addresses? Then that list blocks claude.ai, because it works from Anthropic's servers. Ask Telartis to change the policy.
