Frequently asked questions about e-learning

Answers to questions that webmasters who run an e-learning often ask.

Does a student have to be logged in?

Yes. Xanti saves answers, scores and certificates with the user who is logged in. So set the Permissions of the course and the tests to User or to a group of your own, never to Anonymous.

A student sees "Starten kan nog niet." (you cannot start yet)

In the Course folder, another part is ticked under Must be done for this part. The student must finish that part first.

Can a student retake a test?

Only if you switched on the option start opnieuw (start again) for that part in the Course folder. The student then sees Start opnieuw on Mijn pagina (My page). Their answers to that test are then deleted, and so are those of parts that wait for this test. As an administrator, you can also delete their answers yourself: see Viewing tests and results.

A student cannot view their answers

Switch on the option bekijk resultaat (view result) for the part. Even then, the student can only view their answers after answering all the questions of the test. Until then, they see U kunt het resultaat van deze toets (nog) niet bekijken. (you cannot view the result of this test (yet)).

I cannot delete a question

Once students have given answers, you can no longer delete or move questions of that test. This keeps the scores correct. You can still fix a typo in a question or choice. Do you really want to set up the test differently? Then create a new test.

The student does not see their feedback

In the test (More > Edit), switch on Display individual feedback messages and fill in Feedback for each answer. With feedback, there may be only one question per page.

How do I know my course is set up correctly?

In the course folder, click More > Course Check. You then see, for example, whether there is an Intro text, whether every test has a right and a wrong answer, and whether a certificate has been set up. If it says No course errors found., the course is ready.

Try not to change a course while students are working on it. Test changes with a test user first.
